  • A once in a lifetime tour

We did the 3D2N tour of the Burma-Thailand Railway recently and cannot speak highly enough about the whole tour. From booking it, to pick-up and drop-off - every aspect was just superb and everyone we encountered, was so professional and helpful. The knowledge and passion the team have for this subject was so impressive. A once in a lifetime tour - highly recommended. Book now!

  • The staff were beyond brilliant

We have just returned from a 5 day pilgrimage to visit where my grandfather was a POW on the Death Railway. My mum had always wanted to go and see what her father endured and she said it was the best thing she’s ever done. The staff were beyond brilliant, the research and information gained was incredible and I would do it all again in a heartbeat! Thank you to John for always being helpful and giving people the ability to have this opportunity of a lifetime.

  • An unforgetable week

We would like to thank you for an amazing experience we recently had on your tour. We all agreed it was an unforgetable week following in the footsteps of our father/grandfather and learning his journey. To physically walk where he walked and visit locations that he worked, slept and recovered from illness and injury, was something we will always hold close to us. We learnt so much that we would never have known had we not engaged with you.

  • Excellent planning and itinerary

I travelled to Thailand to learn more about my grandfather’s time as a POW on the Burma-Thailand Railway. Thank you for the excellent planning and itinerary. Terry, Rod, Andrew and the TBRC crew were great. Their generosity in time, information and valuable knowledge made for a most memorable and truly special experience. It was more than I had anticipated. Everything went so very well from start to finish. It was an absolute pleasure to have dealt with Historic War Tours and TBRC.

  • Informative and extremely moving

We joined the Anzac Day 2019 Tour and found it informative and extremely moving being at Hellfire Pass for the Dawn Service and later in the day, at the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery. We thought the tour was very good value and enjoyed our accommodation and meals and would certainly recommend the tour. Thank you for your professionalism and organisation.

  • The best thing I have ever done

John organized a personal tour of the Death Railway, through the guys at TBRC. It was the best thing I have ever done. The amount of research they all did and the effort put into a personalized itinerary was of the highest quality. I cannot recommend John and Historic War Tours enough to ever express my gratitude. Don’t hesitate, book now, you won’t regret it.

  • A wonderful focus on the history

We recently returned from Historic War Tour’s 3 day/2 night Anzac Day Tour. It was just right being the perfect balance between a military tour of the Burma-Thailand Railway and Hellfire Pass and a scenic holiday of the picturesque River Kwai and surrounds. We particularly loved the train trip to the Wang Pho Viaduct and being able to visit Hellfire Pass in the light of day and then again for the very special Dawn Service. The long tail boat ride was a personal favourite and a great alternate way to see the River Kwai. There was always enough time at every stop we visited. The accommodation was terrific with all meals, entry fees and transport included in the quoted cost of the tour (no hidden surprises).

Unlike other tour programs available, John, the owner of Historic War Tours, comes along on this guided tour and personally oversees the program, ensuring that everything goes smoothly with the local guide, the transport and overnight accommodation. The beauty of this tour is it offers a more personal experience specialising in smaller groups. We thoroughly recommend Historic War Tours. It is well organised and has a wonderful focus on the history of the Burma-Thailand Railway and the sacrifices of Australian and Allied POW’s. It was the best value tour we could have hoped for.

  • Highly recommended

Historic War Tours provided a memorable and professional insight into what took place all those years ago, building the Burma-Thailand Railway. The Anzac Day Dawn Service was an emotional experience and one we will never forget. Thank-you. Highly recommended.

  • A magnificent experience.

There is only one word to describe our first trip to Thailand and that is fantastic. There was not a wasted moment when we did a fully escorted tour with John. Travelling to Kanchanaburi from Bangkok, we had an emotionally moving and memorable visit to the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, and then to ride the train along the infamous Death Railway was just about my undoing whilst remembering those who died in the most atrocious of conditions. Overnight was at the amazing Home Phu Toey Resort, site of the Weary Dunlop Museum and right on the River Kwai surrounded by Jungle. A serene and beautiful location. The next day we visited Hellfire Pass and, on the journey back to Bangkok, we stopped at the Nakhom Pathom Chedi, the largest Buddhist pagoda in Thailand. Back in Bangkok, a visit to the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha was the icing on the cake to finish on a more relaxing note. All in all, a magnificent experience.

  • Best experience ever.

My trip to Thailand with John was outstanding and well organised. I followed in my father’s footsteps, a POW, as he would have experienced the Death Railway. We arrived at Hellfire Pass on Anzac Day, the same day my dad marched in so many years before. This experience for me was very special. The Dawn Parade was mind blowing and gave me a special piece of mind – as well as the car park where the camp was and where I felt dad’s presence! Best experience ever.
