About Us

Historic War Tours (HWT) is operated by a small group who are passionate about Australia’s war history. Tours have been developed through relationships with long established, local tour providers who have extensive experience in dealing with international travellers.

All tours are fully escorted and can cater for small to large groups as well as the single traveller and are available all year round (most with guaranteed departure) to fit in with your travel plans. You will get off the beaten track and travel to places of magnificent scenery but more importantly, places of historical significance where Australian and allied forces have fought in various conflicts around the world.

In 2009, I made my first trip to Anzac Day on the Burma-Thailand Railway in Thailand. I discovered that I had a distant relative (Mick Johnston) who was buried in the war cemetery at Kanchanaburi. From then, I became engrossed in his story and that of the Burma-Thailand Railway.

After many years of research in both Australia, Thailand and Singapore and wanting to tell the real story of the Railway, in 2017, I started my first tour to the Anzac Day Commemorations on the Burma-Thailand Railway, with other tours available in Thailand and Singapore. Since then, it is with a great deal of satisfaction that I have been able to give many people the opportunity to visit these historic places especially those who had a loved one who worked and perhaps died, on the Railway.

I am pleased that HWT is now giving people the opportunity to visit other locations including Vietnam and the Western Front (WW1) in Europe.
